Chapter 2 

The page was complete chaos. Bright pink scribbles, crooked hockey sticks, floating marshmallows for reasons only Louise understood.

A tiny stick figure in a pink coat.

A second figure with square glasses that was clearly Shane.

And beside them stood an enormous black crayon figure with an aggressively grumpy face.

The three figures were holding hands.

Above them, written in crooked backwards letters, was one single word.

FAMILY.

Notes about characters: ILYA Tall. Broad-shouldered. Dressed entirely in black beneath the café apron. Dark tattoos disappeared beneath the rolled sleeves of his thermal shirt, messy dark blond curls falling into his face Shane has socks on  Excerpt: she grabbed the sleeve of Ilya’s thermal shirt  Then she reached for Shane’s apron strings and tugged him into place on her other side. lya stood then and pulled Shane back against his chest in one smooth movement, warm and solid and steady, while Louise wrapped herself around one of his legs, still clutching the stuffed bear with her other arm.
