a culinary testament

Cultural note:
A potluck dinner in Alberta is one where everyone brings a plate of food to share. Pretty much everywhere else I've lived, a potluck dinner is one where you just turn up and eat whatever the host is serving. Gah - why doesn't anyone tell me these things? But I got my own back. I invited people to a party and asked them to bring a plate.

Another cultural note:
If an Aussie asks you to bring a plate to dinner, they're asking you to bring a plate of food to share.
